Amethyst is a type of quartz and gets it distinctive purple form the presence of Manganese. It is sometimes layered with white quartz to create Chevron Amethyst or Cetrine to create Ametrine. Ancient Greeks & Romans studded their goblets with amethyst believing it would prevent intoxication or by Catholic Bishops to protect against mystical intoxication.
Amethyst is thought of mostly as a protective stone. It is linked to the crown chakra, it is helpful in purifying the mind and clearing it of negative thoughts, stress and anxiety.
